Nuclear Weapons Program in North Korea

Monday, November 29th 2010. | Politics

The question of whether North Korea has made nuclear missiles are still unanswered, but it might be achieved if North Korea has the technology that supports the manufacture of nuclear weapons. There is a rumor that says that the North Korean nuclear experts to recruit foreigners to join in the uranium enrichment facility. This raises the concern of many countries. Yongbyun complex is the heart of plutonium weapons program in North Korea areas. This place consists of the five megawatt reactor which began in 1980. Yongbyun a fuel plant at the same time recycling process in which the material of weapons plutonium extracted from spent fuel.
Sites located in 100 kilometers north of Pyongyang’s side holds 50 megawatt reactor under a nuclear deal with the U.S. in 1994.
When operating with a full, Yongbyon could produce enough fissile material for a nuclear bomb within a year. Yongbyon was dismantled under an agreement last year’s disarmament-related hostilities with the United States, but South Korea’s own party are planning to reactivate the program.
Satellite images taken in the region showed increased activity in the compound, but no sign of North Korean reactor re-using them.
North Korea also said that they are building experimental water reactors at the site. The project is expected to create energy for peace. This type of reactor is considered quite safe.
Experts say North Korean officials had informed that they are making related program of uranium enrichment facilities. Experts see the hundreds of centrifuges, despite North Korea’s own party called the number two thousand. It’s easier to make a nuclear bomb with highly enriched uranium (HEU) as compared with the use of plutonium, but difficult to create nuclear warheads mounted on missiles if the HEU.
